You know you’re in trouble when somebody accuses you of being biased and thinks they’ve made a point.

A) because you are biased, everybody is. And B) because the person you’re talking to hasn't figured that out.

The human brain is a bias engine. Filtering information through easily fooled senses, assessing it against its paltry reserves of experience and memory, and spitting out conclusions that only occasionally bear any resemblance to reality.

In my article, The Cult Of Worse-onality, I wrote about the kinds of people who prey on these limitations. Who encourage us to mistake emotions for thoughts. Who tell us that the problems we face could be effortlessly solved if only the “other side™” weren't barring our path to utopia. Who try to convince us that the worst, most unhinged people who disagree with us represent the entire argument.

Ru thought I was guilty of the same thing.

Ru:

Really good, that is until you trotted out your examples which are kinda balanced heavily on one side . By doing that, you risk presenting the "most unhinged versions of the other side."

For the record, the examples I “trotted out” were Tucker Carlson, Whoopi Goldberg, Donald Trump and “pre-Daily Wire” Jordan Peterson.

Steve QJ:

“you trotted out your examples which are kinda balanced heavily on one side.”

Interesting that you think that. I'd say I was pretty balanced. Whoopi is definitely a liberal, Tucker is definitely a conservative, and I'd say both Trump and Peterson are broadly politically neutral.

Sure, Trump is associated with the Republicans but he's not a Republican by any meaningful philosophical standard. And Peterson, up until a few years ago, would have been seen by most as left-leaning. I certainly think he'd have described himself that way. As for today, I just think he’s unhappy. His politics don’t seem to have changed.

But of course, it's always possible to see one-sidedness if you look for it. I note that you don't seem to mind that they're mostly men.
